MATERIALS

Wool
+
Wool is a natural fiber renowned for its durability, warmth, and comfort, making it an excellent material for rug-making. At Texture Haus, we source Tibetan and New Zealand wool — each offering distinct qualities. Tibetan wool, harvested from sheep raised in Tibet’s high altitudes, yields long-lasting fibers that give rugs a rustic, artisanal feel. In contrast, New Zealand wool is sourced from sheep grazing in lush pastures, which creates exceptionally soft and luminous fibers. These soft fibers absorb dye beautifully, resulting in vibrant and smooth rugs.
Mohair Wool
+
Mohair wool, sourced from the Angora goat, is prized for its silky texture, luminous sheen, and exceptional durability. Finer than traditional wool, it offers a soft, elegant finish and a rich depth of color due to its excellent dye absorption. Its insulating properties and luxurious feel make it an ideal choice for rugs balancing beauty and performance.
Silk
+
Harvested from the cocoon of the silkworm, silk is one of the most luxurious natural fibers prized for its softness, strength, and lustrous sheen. Its ability to reflect light adds a subtle glow, enriching a rug’s colors with depth and vibrance. Though more delicate than other rug-making fibers, silk’s smooth texture and radiant finish lend unparalleled elegance and refinement to any space.
Alpaca
+
Alpaca wool, sourced from the Andean regions of South America, is prized for its exceptional softness, warmth, and lightweight feel. Naturally hypoallergenic and lanolin-free, it is an ideal choice for those with sensitive skin. Thanks to the fiber’s unique structure, alpaca wool offers a velvety, plush feel while also providing excellent insulation and breathability. Its fine texture and natural luster absorb dye beautifully, resulting in rich, vibrant colors that maintain their brilliance over time.
Cashmere
+
Sourced from the soft undercoat of cashmere goats, cashmere is prized for its exceptional softness, breathability, and luxurious feel. When used in rug-making, it produces a delicately, plush texture that feels sumptuous under foot. While not as durable as other fibers, it offers unparalleled comfort and a sense of opulence. These rugs are best suited for low-traffic areas, where their softness and beauty can be admired.
Plant Fibers
+
Rugs made from plant fibers like cactus (agave) and nettle (allo) offer a sustainable, durable, and naturally beautiful option for your interiors. Cactus fiber is resilient with a coarse texture and subtle sheen, ideal for rustic or organic spaces. While nettle fiber is both fine and strong, yielding lightweight yet sturdy rugs with rich, earthy luster. Both materials pair well with other natural fibers, creating a tactile balance of rugged strength and refined beauty.
